Weatherproof Vintage is a brand I wasn't initially familiar with, but now I've come to know it better than most things in my closet. My introduction to the company came via my role as a digital tech on their high-volume e-commerce shoots. I quickly met many of the top creatives, who would stop by to deliver products to photograph, provide creative direction, or simply drop by for a cocktail with the crew. As I became more familiar with the clothing, I appreciated the ruggedness, comfortable textures, and earthy tone palettes, as well as the vibes of the models and the characteristic high-contrast, moody lighting. This was my first in-depth look at a menswear fashion brand from the inside out, as most of my other clients have historically been women's brands - swimwear, bridal, and upscale office and dress wear from the likes of Tanya Taylor and Cinq a Sept. While the nuances of highlighting clothing and connecting with models remain the same, I found my creative interest piqued higher with menswear, perhaps because I don't wear dresses or bikinis. Being on set is, of course, the best way for me to connect with an idea further.
In the fall of 2024, I reconnected with John, the SVP of the brand, at a mutual friend's house party. Coincidentally, the host was one of their most-used e-commerce models, and I had previously worked with him at other companies. NYC may have over 8 million people, but it's somehow never a surprise when worlds collide on a daily basis. Anyway, John mentioned needing an interior photographer to capture their latest Macy's flagship store. Having previously photographed interiors for hospitality and real-estate clients, I pitched myself and dove into the project details. A few more cocktails and an impromptu DJ set later, my assistant and I were rolling our equipment into Macy's freight elevator early in the morning. Over three hours we captured and sculpted lighting around their extensive floor plan, and delivered a beautiful set of images less than two weeks later. This project further solidified my relationship with Weatherproof Vintage, but I would have never imagined it partially leading me to capture their spring and fall campaigns. We began by shooting the layflats and macro clothing details at a local studio shoot, using Oliphant backdrops hand-selected by the client and lighting to match the proposed treatment for the on-figure images being shot on location.
A couple months later, the entire team packed their bags and EQ and headed to Cocoa Beach, Florida to shoot the on-figure stills and video. The campaign stretched across two shooting days in a four day span. This left time for us to scout locations, as well as have a nice break day between the shoots to regroup both technically and mentally.

To this day, this project remains one of my favorites that I have ever been a part of. The location was stunning, the crew and talent were incredible, and the client's hospitality was unparalleled - I almost felt like asking to be adopted into their family. I want to point out that It's very rare to work with a client that understands the importance of everyone feeling good to produce their best work. Feeling good isn't just about having a coffee and a sandwich, but it's about being in a good mood; it's about having fun. When discussing set comforts with others, a nice buffet or lounge area might seem like an unnecessary luxury, but these details are actually essential for fostering a positive crew dynamic and elevating creativity.
Now, we've come full circle, and I've recently photographed the Macy's store yet again, only this time the images on the columns are mine. I love that with all of these images, I can look at them and not only appreciate the success of the campaign for the brand, but also remember the exceptional experiences that helped produce them. It's a testament to the power of building strong relationships with clients and the value of creating a positive, collaborative environment on set. When I look at these images, I'm reminded of the talented team that came together to bring the brand's vision to life, and I'm incredibly grateful to have been a part of it.
